Ride To Imagine-Nation: MALC (GTA IV: The Lost and The Damned)
The life of a tough guy is not an easy one... but it sure is fun. Especially, when it's lived vicariously through the toughest legends around town. Those legends are the characters of the hit video game GTA (Grand Theft Auto). One of my favorite characters is someone that could carry a whole game by themself if needed, just on his bike alone. That character is MALC from the GTA IV chapter of "The Lost and Damned." Malcom a.k.a Malc is the leader of the Uptown Riders of Liberty City. Being a member of this notorious motorcycle club, Malc does things that would make other hardened criminals faint from the pure excitement alone. What makes MALC so cool is the "ride it like you stole it, no holds barred" lifestyle he lives on his bike and behind the trigger. He is a risk taker that is always one step ahead of the competition. Whether he is smuggling weapons, participating in illegal street races with bats to knockout the competition or fixing problems for other bad guys. He always does with his own swagger that no one can copy. Loyal to his crew and friends he is always there to no matter how hot the situation is. It is because of this people dread messing with anyone associated with him knowing they are going to pay for it and pay dearly. He also makes sure that the image of the his club is clean too by selling patented rider merchandise branded by his mototcycle club and selling videos of the crazy stunts him and the crew perform. This video is from from GTA: IV (The Lost and Damned) Shifting Weight mission.

Malc's comes to light in the story when Jim, a member of The Lost M.C., comes to Malc to get explosives for a job that Jim, the main character, needs to eliminate rival bikers known as the Angels of Death. Malc then gives Jim an opportunity to make money in illegal street races in his neck of the woods in North Wood. As things start to heat up Malc is needed to help Jim carry out some heavy jobs for people that only he can do. One things for sure if there is a bike in his posession... the unthinkable can and will happen. His custom Double T is a bike to marvel at that looks like no other. With a dragged out swing arm and one of a kind fairings its not hard to spot this sexy ride anywhere. Cops know him all to well and avoid a chase if they can but if they are in great numbers they'll try to get the untouchable Malc. As Malc joins up with Jim they fend off crazy drug dealers and ride with their life in danger while dodging traffic and the biggest police chase ever seen. Malc also helps Jim with getting a truck and its contents back while at a toll booth of all places where a shooting match takes place. Malc shows just how surgical and percise he is with a gun. After a they finish a couple jobs to perfection they then go back to their seperate groups and live the rider life. Hopefully this game isn't the last we hear of Malc. Thursday, September 8, 2011
Ride To Imagine-Nation: The Black Six
When it comes to movies that have the romanticism of the rough biker gangs or of a tough motorcycle rider of the 70's, quite a few movies come to mind. To this day nothing beats that good old texture of the celloloid films that gave us classic cinema that still has a major influence on flicks today. However, when it comes to motorcycle movies of the 70's fewer feature actors of African descent as riders if any at all. In fact black actors of cinema were starring in "Blaxploitation" movies with some favorite rolls that were good or that of little dignity. Out of all the motorcycle movies that could put a lot of action, a good story plot and that of great memorable characters that were black bikers, only one was made. This gem of cinematic marvel was "THE BLACK SIX." The movie starred a cast of famous football players in their physical prime portraying a group of army veterans back home on their motorcycles and living the biker dream to the fullest. But, when the main character, Bubba Daniels (Gene Washington/San Francisco 49ers), finds out that his brother was murdered he is on the warpath to find out why and most of all who. As him and his group of fellow riders venture off on their bikes to find clues, they put together the reason for this senseless murder and deal out some serious justice with a lot of deserved beatdowns to all that need it. There is a lot of humor from the cast to keep you laughing, not to mention some cool action sequences. Of course what would a motorcycle movie be without the motorcycles to capture the imagination and inspire many to get on that bike. The motorcycle they rode were Triumph Motorcycles that came in an aray of different models and mods that came close to stealing the show. The movie had the likes of Carl Eller (Minnesota Vikings) as Jr. Bro Williams who was the right hand man to the character Bubba, not to mention the voice of reason throughout the movie. Also, in the movie was Lem Barney (Detroit Lions) as Frenchy Laboise who was the Kung-Fu/music man in the band of bikers. Another player featured as the strong man of the crew was Joe "Mean Joe" Greene (Pittsburg Steelers) as Kevin Washington. Mercury Morris (Miami Dolphins) played Bookie Garrett, who whipped a lot of guys and had some of the best lines in the movie too. Lastly, Willie Lanier (Kansas City Chiefs) as Tommy Bunka, played the strong silent type where he let his hard action speak louder than words. This movie gets four out of five choppers from me which you'll have to see for yourself to agree with me on. One thing about this movie that is a guarantee, is the instant throwback with the outfits mixed with that classic cool 70's lingo. So please enjoy the movie if you can find it on Youtube or on your own copy available on DVD. Believe me... That's no jive man.Tuesday, August 30, 2011
You Need To Know: SUGAR BEAR
from its golden age to PROVE the existence of the African-American biker culture. In every case his pictures from the 1940's and 50's eradicated words of doubt, attesting to the proof of black people on bikes far before the chopper frenzy took place. But most of all, his biggest contribution was MAKING history in biker society. The legend I am proud to scribe about is the great, world renowned SUGAR BEAR, who's life has been a living testament to the ENTIRE biker nation as we know it. With his classic springers (long forks on the motorcycle) and awsome revolutionary rockers (the part connecting the forks to the wheel) these marvels of craftsmanship have made him so highly acclaimed by motorcycle afficionados it is hard to keep up with business and business is booming. The one thing that was shocking to those that met him for the first time was finding out that he is an African-American the other, was finding a friend. With the lack of seeing images of African-American bikers as well as being over saturated with depictions of caucasians on bikes, people simply believed black people were not interested in bikes or had such a long history with motorcycles. With apperances on Jesse James' documentary History of The Chopper and Speed Channel's American Thunder, Sugar Bear has enlightened and educated the world abroad about the pressence of Black Americans on motorcycles in past times.
captivated by the woman that sparked it all. She was a lady leaning back on the sissy bars of that chopper reading a paperback book and noticed Sugar Bear. As they smiled at each other she gave him the "peace" sign as she rode off and faded away on that chopper... Right then Sugar Bear the chopper rider was born and that following week Sugar Bear went out and bought a Honda 750, but didn't know how to ride it. That drawback would not stop the future inventor from riding. His friend Barbershop Scotty came to help him get on his iron horse and ride it like a pro. A year later he started chopping and redesigning his bike to become a chopper. But where does one go to get the knowledge to do such a complicated task? This genius went to seek that advice of another legend EVERYONE, black or white, would go to about motorcycles. This was at Hardy's Motorcycle Service at 1168 South Florence Avenue near South Central Avenue. This meeting was not only the start of a great friendship but the beginning of a mentorship that was detrimental to history as we know it. That fellow genius was none other than Benjamin Franklin Hardy known to everyone as Benny Hardy. Brother Ben, as he was known to many, was a passionate man when it came to working on motorcycles and crafting them from scratch. As many have come to know, Benny is the creator with Cliff Vaughs in making the Easy Rider motorcycles that no one knew was made by an African American. As Sugar Bear perfected his great enginuity from gaining knowledge all over he opened his own custom bike shop in walking distance from his house located in South Central Los Angeles in 1971. As his builds became a hit with friends that he customized choppers for, he then moved to making his famous springers that were inches... then feet over the original length of the fork. What makes Sugar Bear a genius is that he has desiphered the complex geometry of motorcycles which had revealed to many he was actually
a mathmatical genius and engineering marvel. With such greatness at making these springers he also made the coolest rockers the world has ever seen. Sugar Bear's creations are so unique in making the motorcycle so perfectly balanced that the bike never flops over, giving the rider great control when turning. In fact you can actually turn the bike with one hand. In encompassing art with engineering, Sugar Bear turned the world of motorcycling upside down. However, he was still not accepted by some in the community of fellow bikers that shared the same passion all because they did not look alike. Even though he was not accepted by those who opposed him as a person they could not help what he had contributed in making choppers so mesmerizing. This caused many to rethink their views and helped break cycles of racial ignorance. Also, being a towering man helped people reconsider what they said before saying the wrong thing. Not to mention his great demenor mixed with great story telling conveyed a brilliant articulate man that many were not aware of since they've never been exposed to African Americans in person. Sugar Bear's career has been one of innovation, but his purpose has been one of triumph over decades of oppression. His valiant effort with motorcycle media has never gone in vain, by refusing to feature his work in or on magazine covers unless he was featured with it as well. This courageous display of bravery won him covers and articles in magazines even when racisim was prominent in publications all over... And he did this without selling himself out, all the while introducing a generation to the legacy of African American bikers that many are proud to represent with pride and dignity to this day. Sugar Bear, now in his early 70's, is still a young man at his shop located in Gardena, Califonia and shows now sign whatsoever in slowing down or being counted out when it comes to teaching the past of African
Americans in the biker culture and making a great chopper as well. For me he is the reason that this blog exists to teach a newer generation what is missing from the media and conversations about a favorite American past time this is rich with black influences. It is because of his knowledge that he has passed onto me about blacks motorcyclists, I have a new found appreciation for the biker culture. I thank this man, legend and genius for making us better people all over the world regardless of color under his trademark heart with wings... And just remember... "IF IT AIN'T LONG. ITS WRONG." ~Sugar BearThursday, October 1, 2009
You Need To Know: SOUL ON BIKES (The story of Tobie Gene and The East Bay Dragons)
It's funny how small moments in time play a big part in the future. These events become so big
later on in life that it becomes monumental which makes it... HISTORY. Some time ago in the fifties two men sat in a cafe having coffee together, just chatting before work started. One of them was Ralph "Sonny" Barger and the other was Tobie Gene. That's right during the industrial age Sonny Barger who would later become the founder and leader of the notorious, iconic biker gang HELL'S ANGELS M.C. and THEE Tobie Gene who would become the founder/president of the world famous, legendary, pioneering EAST BAY DRAGONS started out as just buddies drinking coffee before work. Exciting stories like this are found in the page turning book, "SOULS ON BIKES", which many people have discovered a culture they knew little of or nothing about. For those that never knew black bikers existed it is a reality
check like no other especially the things that black bikers very rarely put up with and DID NOT tolerate during the most blatant of racist times from bigots. You even notice there were African-American motorcycle groups before them and how they were a blueprint for bike clubs we know today. While reading about the life of Tobie Gene and the East Bay Dragons of Oakland California you can't help but cheer, laugh and always wonder what will happen to this tough group of bikers. Read about historical moments that happen right in your face, not to
mention the history made by the Dragons during the golden years of motorcycles and choppers in this great American story. There are connections you can't help but make between your past or that of your family's which is like connecting with distant family. This book will send chills up your spine and have you wanting get on a bike and ride till the wheels fall off. You also notice how these men lived life to the fullest and loved their families which breaks that awful stereotype of
bikers. So whenever you get the chance to get your hands on this beautiful story, I guarantee you will not want to put this book down... it will take you on a wild ride with the bikers you're sure to love.Sunday, July 5, 2009
Legendary Rider: JASON BRITTON
how do you affect the world by changing it's views and more so, what does it take to do it? One thing's for sure Jason Britton has the answer in doing it with a lot of hard work, dedication, natural talent and sacrifice in a very short amount of time compared to most. What sets him apart in achieving such precedence from other stars is that, he willingly shares the light with others making them shine as well. Doing this has earned him the love and respect of many people worldwide! You can call him a great stunt rider, a brilliant host, cool dad, great editor or even an ambassador of good will representing the motorcycle culture at its finest... I just call him SUPERMAN!!!Well like most heroes, discovering their talent and special ability starts at an early age. Jason was just two years old when he got on a motorcycle and WAS RIDING WITHOUT TRAINING WHEELS, which is amazing to consider when other two year old are not that coordinated. This was the start of Jason being the anomaly people have grown to love today. While developing his love for two wheels, growing up in Huntington Beach California, Jason started at the very beginning of biking through BMX racing at the age of ten. Two years later he was racing motocross and showing hints of what's to come when he started doing wheelies on dirt bikes. At age thirteen he became not just good... but great at motocross and rose to expert status. Triumphant win after win, not to mention evolving in technique and skill this soon to be legend at sixteen had to take his place where this legend would be born... ON THE SPORT BIKE!
Captain America... affect the world! One of his friends did not know that this stunter was practicing and getting better and better to soon be come one of the best until they were doing endos (riding on the front tire) and while others were going fair distances and stopping... Jason kept going and going until there was no where to go. Of course jaws dropped and this is what began his ascension in the stunting world. Soon after getting better at stunt riding, with a reputation that preceded him, he was approached to do a video. Once the video was done something happened. Directors where astonished to notice their on board camera was not looking just at the street but at the sky. Jason thought he messed up the video by doing wheelies but he actually made it even better. Realizing he could get his talents out there for everyone to see and marvel at, Jason began doing his own videos. Enter the beginning of TEAM NO LIMIT. Once the filming started, Jason was getting bigger and bigger in status and name. DVD's were selling and his name was getting out there for everyone to hear and see... and I mean EVERYONE the "ENTERTAINMENT EVERYONE."Soon Team No Limit started doing shows, mastering stunt riding to an art form and getting notoriety too. At the beginning of the sport bike culture explosion on the silver screen, Hollywood needed someone to literally ride that wave of stardom. Jason was the man with a few others that could do what was needed. Jason did both premiere motorcycle movies about the sport bike phenomenon , Torque and Biker Boyz. Later he added Waist Deep and currently Taking of Pelham 1-2-3 where he did a great job as a motor cop. During the climb to making history, Jason, like many heroes have a symbol, vehicle or weapon that shows promise of beating any adversary. Jason possessed all three in one, his motorcycle. When asked what Jason wanted
on his bike he had only one quick response... CAPTAIN AMERICA! Now Jason's NO LIMIT red and black Suzuki GXR-750 with the Captain America shield painted on the side made waves and turned heads. With all the attention Jason and his steel dragon were getting while making their mark, SPEED TV needed a personality to make their pilot show "SUPERBIKES!" This show had to appeal to mainstream America while keeping its integrity with the motorcycle culture. Well I have to coin the famous phrase... This looks like a job for JASON BRITTON. After just a couple of shows hitting the airwaves, not only did it well with bringing sport bike viewers to the TV it was a smash hit bringing Harley Davidson bikers which is a hard crowd and nervous mothers from the mid-west to Canada. Once Superbikes! took off it didn't stop or land in ratings at all. Soon the world got a dose of America's favorite stunt rider who soon became the WORLD'S FAVORITE STUNT RIDER. With many television shows showing the same old thing soon the motorcycle culture with other bored viewers finally found a reason to watch TV. Not only that magazines were starting to feel the impact of less and less readers and more interest in the Internet. Once again Jason changes the world... Brought on by Sarah Timleck, publisher of 2 Wheel Tuner magazine, Jason's trials, tribulations and triumphs have become a sought after column month after month as he is the Celebrity Editor with the magazine. So season after great season of Superbikes!, doing show after stunt show, giving his all to the people, his family and suffering from wear and tear from fighting
the streets literally... it was time for Jason to care about Jason. In the later part of 2008 he went to have surgery to his spine and neck done to correct ongoing problems that affected his taste, smell and sense of touch to the left side of his body not to mention the pain he endured from accidents. After surgery Jason was meet with just one challenge, coming back to us out anesthesia. Once again Jason prevailed once again faster, better and stronger. Jason Britton's life is a testament of hard work where he has changed many views people have of stunt riders, bikers and even a race itself. He has transcended color, proving that it is the character and content not the race that defines a person. Jason is my personal hero for making history, making me proud, making a difference and best of all making me a better person. Everyone it's my pleasure to present THEE Jason Britton!Monday, January 26, 2009
Back In The Day: 1956 ROCKER RIDER ON A HOT DATE
This picture was taken back in 1956 of a cool couple out on the town on a Harley Davidson motorcycle decked out in cool biker jackets wowing the crowd behind them. Captured here also shows the influence of the motorcycle culture that has grown in the African-American community for so long. With many photos coming out, it is apparent that black bikers have always been there proving that motorcycles are not a race driven thing but a enthusiast's machine. Please enjoy the photo... I could stare at this for awhile. Special thanks to the photographer for capturing this moment. Saturday, January 24, 2009
You Need To Know: JANIE OMOROGBE
When you think of a world class motorcycle enthusiast, racer and expert what do you think of??? I'll wait... Well most of
you might think a typical caucasian male. Well get that thought the hell out of your head so you can replace it with a two-wheel loving diva who is a true motorcycle aficionado or aficionada. She is JANIE OMOROGBE the beautiful queen of bikes that has set Europe on fire with her endless knowledge and riding skill on a bike. Before doing what she loves best... RIDING and RIDING SOME MORE, the UK native did many incredible things before grabing her helmet and leather riding suit for a living. She was an ambulance driver/advanced first aid technician, successful
model, winner of beauty contests, but more notable as RIO on the hit British version of GLADIATOR. Speaking of the warriors of old that did battle in Greek coliseums, she played one in the hit movie of 2000 "GLADIATOR" as the bow and arrow wielding warrior on a chariot that was later cut in half by that same chariot. After great success on many levels she choose a new endeavor, showing the world that not only women can ride a motorcycle but could ride extremely well. Janie is a born rider, being an avid track racer as well as a long distant rough terrain rider. She also showcased her natural talent as an on-air personality on show after successful show hosting UK television's "Car Crazy Rio", "Top Bikes", "Two Wheels", "Revved Up", "Teen Trials", "Pit Stop Bikes", "Pulling Power", "Top Gear" and "Frans Angels". Now if that was not enough she proved to be a great jounalist on the widely syndicated UK news papers THE SUN and THE TIMES with her own column on every motorcycle.I can't convey it any clearer that Janie's resume of bikes has to make her the foremost expert on
motorcycles, BAR NONE. THERE IS NO ONE IN HISTORY THAT HAS RIDEN AS MANY MOTORCYCLES THAN HER. Janie loves her job very much, as everyone that comes in contact with her can tell. She is truly and inspiration for everyone to aspire to be in the motorcycle world and then some. Success for her just comes with ease and she is a true testament to hard work paying off. The one thing that can never be over looked is her statuesque physique that stands a
perfect 6' 2". Even though her dimensions make every man drool, it is her high expectations, never ending drive and bright intelect that have made her a true achiever of greatness. I am proud not only that she is black but that she is a woman that stands proud showing that it is not the gender or color that makes a great rider, but the tenacity and love of motorcycles that makes you a better rider. I hope to become as good as she is. Riders twist the throttle for a legendary rider phenom... JANIE OMOROGBE!!!!

Back In The Day: 1920's RIDER
This Picture was taken Circa 1920's and this young man is on a Indian Motorcycle which by today's standards is a classic you can't find too many of. I can imagine the looks he received while riding that beautiful machine and smoking a stogie with pride... which is a sign of a good rider. We know that many jealous onlookers would have made a useless scene about how they felt with him on his motorcycle and would have cried like a bunch of idiotic brats about not having anything. That's just how certain people were back in those days. Well some are still like that. It's wonderful to see how far back our history on motorcycles goes to the point it is now. Unfortunately no information was given on this shot but I would have loved to read his story.

For Steve Kehler, fabricating motorcycles into hot machines is a testament of dedication of many years to something he loves and sport bikes have been that passion since the early 90's. Ride To Imagine-Nation: RAVEN (JET MOTO 3)
The year was 1999 and I was SONY PLAYSTATION with 989 STUDIOS gave me something beautiful, JET MOTO 3. This game was the best thing I ever played at the time it was fast, crazy and demanded you concentrate on every move you made to get from start to finish. I would sit in front of the TV for hours learning the game and playing the game till I perfected it, but the thing that made it the best was a character that was too cool for words, RAVEN. This character was the coolest thing to have race for you. In fact when I looked online I found out that many gamers, regardless of color, loved RAVEN and thought of him as their favorite.
Now the bio of RAVEN is set in the future where HOVER-BIKES are the biggest attraction and the biggest sport is JET MOTO. The sport has been going on for awhile and now a young man known as RAVEN got his chance to play and dominate the sport. When he was young he wanted to always fly the hyper-jets for the armed forces but knew that more excitement could be had on a hover-bike. After long practicing and riding he honed his skill down to razor sharp perfection and daring moves such that he qualified to be one twelve that were good enough out of hundreds to ride the JET MOTO circuit. The circuit is so hard many have tried on died. Raven with a crew of two, a female mechanic and race advisor, took to the 14 tracks and dominated against hard and
tricky competition with some that are known to cheat. After beating all of the tracks where he only needed to beat a few to collect a certain amount of points he became the JET MOTO CHAMPION conquering the semi-pro circuit and professional circuit... without losing one race. He even went against two legends Captain Ballad and a old woman named Granny to prove he was the best. And he even proved that he was good on a hover-bike by riding and beating the times required to complete the 3 stunt parks which was very hard.

Bike of The Day: KAWASAKI NINJA ZX-14(Tricked Out Custom Cycles)
Have you ever heard the saying "He's done it before and he can do it again..." Well have you ever kept adding and again and again and again and again and again and again? Well when it comes to the brilliance of Steve Kehler it's a common occurrence every time he rolls a custom bike off the motorcycle table lift just to have his clients pass out or stare in silence at more than what they imagined and paid for. This custom was made for LEGENDARY RIDER, RICKEY GADSON, a custom KAWASAKI NINJA ZX-14. You know Rickey was happy and everyone couldn't get enough it was such a hit the beautiful bike was featured in 2 WHEEL TUNER.

Ride to Imagine-Nation: RIDE TO HELL
sleep before it's time to go to work... But some of you might be bold and just call out the next day just to stay home and play a video game. I know it sounds crazy but believe me there are many people out there that do that. namely me but I won't admit to it. ANYWAY, back to the post. DEEP SILVER which used to be ROCKSTAR VIENNA is putting out a console video game coming out this year of 2009 called RIDE TO HELL and it promises to be like it was in the 60's with the motorcycle
culture when it first started. One thing that I'm impressed with is that the video could have showed any typical stereotypical 60's biker (white biker) and I would have said... "Hmmm, nice game." and that would be it. BUT THEY CHOOSE TO SHOWCASE A COOL BRUTHA ON CHOPPER IN THE DESERT WITH A BANGIN' AFRO'. Then I said, "YES, THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKIN' ABOUT." All in all the game took the leap to show that bikers were bikers regardless of color back then like it's supposed to and in fact
the lead biker on the trailer is a cool black man with two fellow white guys riding with him. Now before you start thinking it's about the brutha man, it's not... It follows a guy that has come back from the Vietnam war and has trouble getting back in society, but finds solace with others in a motorcycle gang called the DEVIL'S HAND M.C. This game promises NOT and repeat NOT for children or the faint of heart. It promises to have hard drinking and bare knuckle action like a
real game is supposed to. So just imagine an EAST BAY DRAGON rider out for adventure. It will follow in the footsteps of it's predecessor of the GTA series which was created by the former entity ROCKSTAR. But if you look at the pictures and visit the RIDE TO HELL site you will see that the graphics are very High-quality and detailed. Well I'll give you more when I get it as for now this is just teaser information on a character with no name.... enjoy! Look at the YOUTUBE TESER TRAILER BELOW!!!
